Chromat’s SS18 show Serenity, demonstrated the force of fashion when backed with an design focus of sustainability and ethos of female empowerment with its dynamic new collection. The show opened with a sense of transcendental peacefulness where projections of vast aerial shots explored arctic landscapes and ice rock formations. Siren-like sounds washed over the gallery as Suzi Analogue sung live and produced orchestral tunes, while visuals by Pussykrew depicted ancient, forgotten statues of goddesses underwater. Cue the fashion..
The Namilia AW17 presentation was an epic mash up of fairytale and fantasy. The show opened with orchestral disney songs including iconic ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘Mary Poppins’ tunes, and when a track that sporadically spat “I can get dick anytime I want” distorted and disrupted the traditional scene, you knew we were in for an exciting and dramatic show.
I'm a hard core sci-fi and fantasy fan so like most of the internet, I loved the new 70s sci-fi inspired Gucci fashion campaign. Both sci-fi and fantasy are genres that are able to explore race, gender and sexuality , historically allowing for more diverse media representation and important social commentary. The Gucci campaign is utterly beautiful, though this campaign is quite different from the usual Gucci image. Widely well received online, this series relies on nostalgia and iconic sc-fi moments which it re creates.
Totally drool worthy items to day dream about while you're at the pool this summer.
